Scholarships

One of the goals of LVHA is to be a leader in philanthropic gifts and scholarships to the Southern Nevada Community and the Tourism Industry. LVHA has established Scholarship Programs and Endowments as well as many individual scholarships honoring our industry professionals.

LVHA has raised over $1 Million for scholarships and charities and is constantly working to fulfill its goal to make education a priority within the growing needs of our industry, organization and community. To accomplish our goals, we have established the following programs:

Child of LVHA Scholarship

  • Average Amount/Award - $1,250 per semester

  • Deadline - 2/15/2019

CCSD Nevada, Private, or Charter School senior attending any Las Vegas High School who is a child or grandchild of an LVHA member who is active and in good standing for one year may apply for this scholarship. This is a financial need scholarship. The student must be a full time college student and maintain a 3.0 minimum cumulative weighted GPA each semester in order to receive the scholarship award for the next semester. A transcript and class schedule will be required and the student must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. This is not a renewable scholarship. However, past recipients may re-apply for additional years. Up to four scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each will be offered. This scholarship is paid $1,250 per semester & recipient must submit the proper paperwork and meet the qualifications to receive the award for the second semester.

Verification of enrollment and class schedule are required each semester. Scholarship funds must be applied toward tuition only. If a student drops out of school the pro-rated tuition refund is to be returned to The Public Education Foundation and deposited in the LVHA scholarship fund.

Child of LVHA Graduate School Scholarship

  • Average Amount/Award - $1,250 per semester

  • Deadline - 1/31/2019

Current college graduates who have earned a four year degree and are enrolling in a graduate program and are a child or grandchild of an LVHA member who is active and in good standing for three years may apply for this scholarship. This is a financial need scholarship. The student must maintain a 3.0 minimum cumulative weighted GPA per semester in order to receive the scholarship award for the next semester. A transcript and class schedule will be required and the student must be enrolled in consecutive semesters. This is not a renewable scholarship. However, past recipients may re-apply for additional year. Scholarship(s) in the amount of $2,500 each will be offered. This scholarship is paid $1,250 per semester & recipient must submit the proper paperwork and meet the qualifications to receive the award for the second semester. Number awarded to be determined.

LVHA Member Certification Scholarship

  • Average Amount/Award - $500

  • Deadline - 2/15/2019

This certificate is available to any LVHA Member in good standing as a member of LVHA for one year. One award of $500 will be awarded. This scholarship may only be used for tuition at any accredited educational institution or certificate program approved by LVHA. This award is available to all LVHA members who are attending the LVHA CMP Camp graduating with the CMP certificate.

LVHA Member Continuing Education Scholarship

  • Average Amount/Award - $1,000

  • Deadline - 2/15/2019

The LVHA Continuing Education Scholarship is available to all members in good standing of LVHA. This scholarship is awarded to members who want to attend CSN, Nevada Sate College or UNLV to pursue their degree, masters or doctorate. This program awards two $1,000 scholarships each year ($500 per semester) .

These funds may only be used for tuition. Verification of college enrollment (class schedule) will be required during the summer before check is mailed to the college. These funds will be disbursed in equal payments over two semesters.

LVHA Scholarships at the College of Southern Nevada

LVHA has donated over $349,000 to CSN for endowments, scholarships and programs for students and LVHA members. LVHA has also recognized industry and LVHA members with $67,500 in scholarship awards in their names at CSN through the Distinction Awards and through recognition awards of past members.

Valley High School Academy of Hospitality and Tourism Scholarship

  • Average Amount/Award - $1,000

  • Deadline - 2/15/2019

This scholarship is open to all graduating seniors from Valley High School’s Academy of Hospitality and Tourism in Clark County, Nevada who are graduating with a 3.0 or above, non-weighted, cumulative GPA and are planning to attend an accredited U.S. College or University full-time. Up to ten scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be offered.

Verification of enrollment and class schedule are required. Scholarship funds must be applied toward tuition only. If a student drops out of school the pro-rated tuition refund is to be returned to The Public Education Foundation and deposited in the LVHA scholarship fund. These funds are paid per semester.

  • Essay ‐ "How will this scholarship help with my education?" The length of the essay should be 400‐500 words.

LVHA Scholarships at UNLV

LVHA has established a $50,000 Endowment that funds UNLV Students attending the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. This endowment is self-funded and awards yearly scholarships to hospitality majors.

LVHA Distinction Award Scholarships

LVHA established named scholarships for the recipients of the Distinction Awards 2018. Each award is $2,500 and awarded over two years. LVHA named awards are:

LVHA & The Public Education Foundation

LHVA has established a $50,000 Endowment and Scholarship Fund with the Public Education Foundation. The Public Education Foundation has partnered with LVHA to disburse all scholarships.

LVHA Mary Thomas Community Scholarship

CCSD, Private, or Charter School seniors with a 3.0 or higher GPA who plan to attend an accredited college or university may apply for this scholarship. Financial need will be considered. One scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded and may be renewable for an additional three years if student meets the criteria for a total of $10,000.

Verification of college enrollment (class schedule) will be required during the summer before check is mailed to the college. Scholarship funds must be applied toward tuition, fees and other appropriate educational expenses. These funds will be disbursed in equal payments over two semesters.

  • Award - $2,500 - Renewable

  • Deadline - 1/31/2019

  • Supplemental Questions:

  1. Essay - 350 words - Why do you need this scholarship, what is your field of study and future plans with your college degree.

  2. Include a "Financial Need Letter" explaining why you need assistance with your college expenses.

  3. Please request two letters of recommendation. Please be VERY careful that you are typing the email addresses correctly. You should notify these individuals to expect an email from you giving them a link to upload their letter to The Public Education Foundation.
